From the Archives: The Great Carcoar Flood of 1916.

August 28, 2016

“Carcoar reports the worst flood ever known. Residents of 70 years standing say that they cannot remember anything to equal it. The timber beam bridge which spans the Belubula at Carcoar, and which connects the north and south parts of the town, was seriously damaged. The water broke over the decking to a height of six or seven feet, with the result that the sides were washed away and one end of it collapsed. Carcoar residents were in danger of the Belubula River overflowing and inundating the town but, with the exception of water entering a few houses built close to the banks, the town was spared” (Ref: Canowindra Star and Eugowra News, Friday 1 September, 1916).
