Welcome to The Carcoar Village Fair -Australia Day 2017
Billed as ‘a day of fun for everyone’, the Carcoar Village Fair which is held on Australia Day attracts thousands of visitors to the historic village of Carcoar in the NSW Central Tablelands each year. Thanks to the efforts of local volunteers, the event in Carcoar is one of the largest Australia Day celebrations in the Central West which is a huge achievement for the small community of about 200 residents.
In 2017 the festivities will kick off at 8.30am with a host of attractions throughout the day. A highlight will be the re-enactments performed by the Gold Trails Re-enactment Group, featuring actors performing events that occurred in Carcoar and surrounds, and being made particularly realistic by the use of multiple riders on horseback. Additionally there will be live music featuring November Shorn, Cobb and Co carriage rides, vintage cars, amusements and entertainment for the kids including the wonderful Murphy’s Puppets and much more.
In recognition of Carcoar's significance as the third oldest settlement west of the Blue Mountains, all five of Carcoar's museums will be open, including the Carcoar Hospital Museum, Court House Museum, Carmanhurst Military Museum, Stoke Stable Museum and The 20th Century Toy Museum. Event organisers are encouraging people to get involved by dressing up in period costume and there will be a prize for the best dressed.
The historic courthouse will host talks by two authors on bushranger history: Craig Bratby (John Vane, Biography of a Bushranger) and Peter Bradley (Ben Hall – Stories from the Hard Road). In addition, remarkable story teller Craig Lawler, recently featured on Conversations with Richard Fidler nationally on ABC radio, will appear and give a highly entertaining narrative on the struggle between police inspector Sir Frederick Pottinger and his nemesis Ben Hall.
Once again the Fair will be very affordable for families with $2 entry per person and loads of activities, games and live entertainment. All profits raised on the day will be returned to the community via Village improvement projects.
Make a day of it, bring the whole family and invite your friends! Wander the streets and experience the ambience of the historic buildings and peruse the market stalls. Enjoy the wonderful variety of food on offer, find a spot by the river and relax in the dappled shade on the Belubula's edge. It really is a day of fun for everyone.
