Heritage Workshop

Last Saturday a workshop to provide information and practical advice on heritage buildings was held at the Carcoar Hospital Museum. David Scobie, council heritage advisor, and Phillip LeBreton, heritage builder and Tafe teacher from Bathurst, were the presenters at this well attended event. The range of topics discussed was extensive and included solutions for fixing common issues with old buildings such as rising damp, flaking paintwork, spalling brickwork, jammed doors and windows, and roofing. They also explained some of the problems resulting from ill-considered 'repairs' such as painting exterior brickwork which can prevent the building from 'breathing', trap moisture and lead to structural problems. Information booklets provided at the workshop are now available at the Carcoar Post Office.
