Carcoar Goes Prime Time

This evening Sunday Prime television aired the eagerly awaited Carcoar and surrounding villages segment of the Sydney Weekender program. Running at about five minutes the segment highlighted several local attractions including The 20th Century Toy Museum and Teapots Cafe with a special appearance from George Tate's vintage Studebaker. If you missed it you can check it on Yahoo Plus7 catchup TV.

Breathe Again

Not only does it look great seeing the original brickwork the owners of this house in Millthorpe are also helping to conserve the building. Removal of thick layers of paint from the exterior will allow the bricks to breathe and allow moisture to evaporate. Frequently with older buildings painted brickwork causes moisture to become trapped beneath the paint causing the brickwork to disintegrate over time. It can be very satisfying bringing an old place back to life. For anyone interested in restoring an older home NSW Environment and Heritage has a wealth of free information available for download as part of their Maintenance Series. Autumn @ Carcoar

It's so nice to finally see Autumn and experience the change of seasons here in the Tablelands. In every yard and street deciduous trees will soon be a blaze of deep red, buttery yellow, and every colour in between. With the milder weather it's also time to venture back out into the garden, time to enjoy hearty comfort food and, with the nights becoming cooler, time to cosy up inside by the fireplace with our furry friends and loved ones or, perhaps, even a good book.

Shalom Long Lunch Returns

Last Sunday 'Shalom' House of Prayer at Carcoar hosted the first of their Long Lunches for the year. Guest speaker was Jake Hansen, better known as The Orange Snake Catcher. Jake gave a very interesting talk about snakes and dispelled a number of myths surrounding this much maligned creature. Various snakes (live) in boxes were passed around for a look including a python which guests were invited to touch and which promptly wound itself around fingers and arms. The talk and slideshow was followed by a delicious three course meal. Well done to all those who organised the event and helped out in the kitchen.
